PHARMACIST OATH

I swear by the Code of Ethics of the Pharmacy Council of India and shall act as an integral part of the healthcare team.

I shall uphold the laws and standards governing my profession.

I shall strive to perfect and enlarge my knowledge to contribute to the advancement of pharmacy and public health.

I shall follow the system which I consider best for pharmaceutical care and counseling of patients.

I shall consider the welfare of humanity and the relief of suffering as my primary concern.

I shall maintain the highest principles of moral, ethical and legal conduct.

I shall not divulge any information entrusted to me by patients or physicians.

I shall not manufacture, store or sell any product which may harm humanity.

I shall dedicate myself to a life of service to others through my profession.


CODE OF ETHICS FOR PHARMACISTS

(As per Pharmacy Council of India)

1. Relationship with Patients

A pharmacist shall regard the health and safety of the patient as his/her first concern.
He/She shall supply medicines of good quality and provide proper instructions for their use.
A pharmacist shall respect the confidentiality of patient information.

2. Relationship with Physicians

A pharmacist shall maintain a respectful professional relationship with physicians.
He/She shall not publicly criticize the prescribing practices of a physician.
Any error or ambiguity in a prescription shall be referred back to the physician for clarification.

3. Relationship with the Profession

A pharmacist shall uphold the dignity and honor of the profession.
He/She shall continuously update professional knowledge and skills.
A pharmacist shall avoid any act that may bring disrepute to the profession.

4. Relationship with Trade and Industry

A pharmacist shall not engage in unfair trade practices.
He/She shall not manufacture, store, or sell spurious or substandard drugs.
All medicines shall be stored and dispensed as per statutory requirements.

5. Relationship with the Public

A pharmacist shall promote public health awareness.
He/She shall educate the public on the safe and rational use of medicines.
A pharmacist shall cooperate with health authorities in public health programs.

6. Legal and Moral Responsibilities

A pharmacist shall comply with all laws governing pharmacy practice.
He/She shall maintain proper records and documentation.
A pharmacist shall work within the limits of professional competence.
